Communication + Planning = Successful Project

E. Meier Contracting was asked in the Winter of 2011-2012 to evaluate all hard surfaces at a church in South St. Louis County. The church also has a school on site and the campus is heavily used by all sorts of groups 7 days a week from 7:30 am until 10pm. The church and school were originally built in the mid 1950’s and have been added on to and renovated. Thus the hard surfaces, both Concrete and Asphalt, are of varying ages and condition.

The evaluation process started with a meeting between E. Meier staff and the church Business Manager. The objective was to establish a list of priorities. In other words, which areas are most heavily used and most important? Which areas are least important? When is the best time of year to do removal and replacement of Asphalt and Concrete? What budget does E. Meier have to work with? How will schedule changes be handled? What forms of communication work best with the church offices? How will the school office be notified of scheduled work and schedule changes?

All of these questions were answered in a thoughtful way with candid feedback from both parties. After all, on a busy site that is heavily used where children and senior citizens are very active, work needed to be coordinated and people treated in a most respectful and courteous manner.

A contract was presented that offered a solution involving all issues and the contract was accepted in May of 2012. Work commenced in June of 2012 and was completed before the school term began in mid August.

Upon completion of the project, the client said that she has never worked with an Contractor who was so good at communicating. The client also said that she has never before worked with a contractor who was as polite, professional and easy to work with as E. Meier Contracting. The campus now has beautiful Asphalt Parking Lots. All trip hazards and pot holes are gone and now smooth, safe and attractive hard surfaces grace the campus. Church access has been improved for those with mobility challenges. Another successful project has been completed on time and within budget.
