Beth Hamedrosh Hagodol Cemetery Sidewalk Replacement & Asphalt Overlay

Our team removed and replaced the failed concrete sidewalks at Beth Hamedrosh Hagodol Cemetery, overlaid the asphalt drive, and set bricks donated to the cemetery by the St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum into the sidewalk entrances. The project came to us through our relationships with the general contractors on site, Avison Young and Aspire.
From the beginning, we understood this was more than a typical concrete and asphalt project. The cemetery is a place of deep meaning, and the work required an added level of care, respect, and sensitivity. Several failed sidewalk sections sat within inches of headstones, leaving our crews very little room to work. We wrapped the adjacent memorials and removed the existing concrete methodically so nothing surrounding the walkways was disturbed.
Jewish burial services can take place with very little advance notice, so our team stayed ready to adjust our timeline and clear work areas on short notice, coordinating around funerals, holidays, cemetery activities, and the other contractors working on site. The cemetery remained open throughout construction, with barricades and controlled work zones separating visitors and vehicles from active work. Throughout the project, our employees understood that maintaining the dignity of those being remembered and respecting those visiting the cemetery was just as important as completing the work itself.
The completed sidewalks and drive restored safe, comfortable access across the grounds, with the donated bricks now a permanent part of the entrances. The client was pleased with the outcome, and our crews took great pride in doing this work with the respect and care the cemetery and its families deserve.
