Sport Port Road Construction
Project Client: KBG Holdings
Project Partner: Midwest Testing
Sport Port Road will provide access to the future Maryland Heights Commerce Center, a site located near the Maryland Heights Expressway in St. Louis County. This 52-foot-wide roadway project presented unique challenges as it traverses a floodplain, an environment where soft and wet subgrade issues are common. To ensure a stable base, E. Meier’s team performed multiple rounds of drying and compacting the soil, with Midwest Testing overseeing the compaction and proof rolling stages to confirm the roadbed’s readiness for paving.
Despite the demanding conditions, our crew stabilized the site through meticulous subgrade preparation. They employed discing, a technique that opens the soil for faster drying, before compacting each section to meet the necessary strength. Once compacted, the area underwent proof rolling with loaded trucks to identify and resolve any remaining soft spots. Then, Midwest Testing conducted core sampling to ensure the surface was ready for paving.
Completed in August 2024, the project delivered a durable, straight-line asphalt road that met all compaction and structural requirements. The City of Maryland Heights accepted the road for review, and KBG Holdings expressed satisfaction with E. Meier’s execution and commitment to quality. This project reinforced E. Meier’s expertise in tackling complex subgrade conditions within floodplain environments and delivering stable, long-lasting infrastructure solutions.
